Appropriate Massage Equipment

Appropriate Massage Equipment

Massage, while luxurious and pampering for its receivers, is a serious profession for its deliverers requiring enormous knowledge, an advanced skill set, and unmatched professionalism. And along with this – in order to make a massage profession a successful profession – is the need for safe and effective massage equipment.

As a massage therapist, your equipment needs depend largely on your method of seeing clients. If you work within an existing full-service spa then your massage equipment needs will be significantly less than if you have clients coming to your home or vice versa.

If you do not see your clients in an existing spa, then you will have to provide a massage table and massage chair as part of your massage equipment. A massage table can be a permanent piece of furniture or foldout table that you bring along with you to appointments. It is generally a long table with a cushion for the client to rest their face when they are on their stomach. When purchasing this piece of massage equipment be sure that the table is of adequate length and sturdy enough to hold a variety of weights.

A massage chair allows you to do back and neck massages while the client sits up with their face in a cushioned holder. This piece of massage equipment is typically for shorter massages and don’t require the client to remove any clothing.

Many massage therapists – regardless of whether they work in a spa or at home – consider their own massage oils and lotions to be a part of their personal massage equipment. The smell and texture of certain products appeal to some massage therapists more than others and they will often bring their products along with them. In addition, for those massage therapists trained in hot stone massage, they will often bring their own hot stones – as these are expensive and personal pieces of massage equipment.

However, more important than the massage equipment – or possibly considered the most important piece of massage equipment of all - is the massage therapist’s ability to connect with their client and deliver a relaxing, therapeutic massage.

Are You Cut Out For Massage School?

Are You Cut Out For Massage School?

Over the past few years a definite trend has emerged regarding holistic and alternative medicines and therapies. People are becoming less eager to rely on prescribed medication and are looking for ways to maintain health and wellbeing in more alternative ways. For that reason, massage schools are becoming more common and there are many more prospective students. If you are considering attending a massage school for yourself it is worth reading the following information to help you make the right decision for your future.

Firstly, massage therapy is a form of holistic therapy and therefore an element of science is involved. An example of where this is required is regarding anatomical knowledge. While you do not need to know this prior to your course, it is important to remember that there is a degree of scientific learning to be done. However, this must be balanced by an artistic flair as this type of therapy is an art form in itself.

Training in massage does not give you the ability to perform treatments on any individual or area of the body. In fact, there are over 100 different types of massage currently being carried out, many of which require specific training or knowledge. For example, an Indian Head Massage is very different from a Swedish Body Massage, and an individual trained in one would not be bale to perform the other without further training. However, if you do not know the specific area of massage you would like to be trained in, undertaking a massage therapy course is possibly the best thing to do as it gives you a basic, and sound, understanding of the body and how massage works. In addition to this you will learn how to perform different massage techniques, and be given an insight into the more specific forms you may wish to go on to specialise in.

Individual massage schools require different qualifications and experience from their students before allowing them to enrol. However, generally you will require a high-school diploma, and any education undertaken after high school can be beneficial. Equally important though are the personal attributes of candidates. You will need to be calm, patient and personable in order to put your future clients at ease, and so these traits are very important to the massage schools.

If you feel that attending a massage school is right for you, you can find information about the different schools available on the internet. Massage can provide you with a great new career and a new challenge so I would like to wish you the best of luck for your future as a massage therapist!

Massage Chairs

Massage Chairs

You must have a specific amount of space for the massage chair, in your house. This must be the foremost aspect that must be considered. Massage chairs are not light in weight and many a massage chair is quite heavy. A large number of people prefer to keep these chairs in the home office area or the bedroom. There might be a case wherein, you would want to keep the massage chair in your living room, but it might just cramp up the living room area. Moreover, the other people in the house might not like the idea.

Many of massage chairs have the recliner feature. So, you must place the chair in a place such that you can make full use of the recliner feature and recline without any encumbrance or space constraint.

People Using Massage Chairs

5'10 inches or thereabouts is the comfortable height, wherein the use of the massage chair can be optimized. If you are significantly shorter or taller then this figure then the best thing would be to give the massage chair a test ride. This is because your height determines whether the back rollers of the massage chair will massage your back or the back of your head and neck.

All massage chairs are available with a control pad, which can be used to adjust the position of the rollers and the nodes, when the massage chair is in use. There are also other massage chairs that have an automatic adjustment system configured into them, which identifies the height of a person and adjusts its rollers accordingly. Your massage chair should offer you comfort, hence before buying you must always check whether the height of the massage seat etc will offer you comfort or not.

Massage Chair Features

Once you give the market for massage chairs a look over you will find that a typical massage chair comes with a whole lot of features. However, not all features are used on a frequent basis.

See if the features suit your requirements or not. Suppose you suffer from a chronic neck strain, then you must choose a massage chair that will address that specific problem. There are a few massage chairs that concentrate only on the neck and shoulder areas while there are others that use the inflation and deflation of airbags to massage a particular area.

There are also some massage chairs that concentrate on your leg and foot areas, while others put primary focus on the hip and buttocks. Moreover, the intensity of the massage must also be checked before you purchase a massage chair. There are some chairs that are known for their intense pressure while there are other who do not exert as much pressure while massaging.

Budget

We had mentioned earlier that massage chairs don’t come cheap. However, there is no real need to buy massage chairs from the top of the heap, with a high price tag. When it comes to massage chairs, the price is not the determinant of quality of efficacy. Remember, the more the features in a particular massage chair, the higher the price tag. Nobody uses all the features of a massage chair, so if you want to buy within the confines of a particular budget then its best that you choose a massage chair that offers a few basic features.

The design, features, and lastly the price of massage chairs is enough to make your mind boggle. So, just look at your inherent requirement and revolve your choice around them.

You Absolutely Must Consider Before Buying Your Massage Chair

You Absolutely Must Consider Before Buying Your Massage Chair

I discussed the many features you should consider when buying a massage chair, as well as the durability aspect of your new massage chair. Let’s get on with the remaining 7 “Absolute Musts” to consider when looking into a new massage chair recliner.

#3. Ease of Repair – because of the weight and bulk of a massage chair, simple repairs become a real bother when you have to ship an entire chair back to the manufacturer just to repair something as simple as a tear in the material. For this reason, I suggest looking into a chair that is constructed with a modular design. This makes repair cheap and easy. If a part is broken or material is torn, the modular design will allow you to isolate the damaged part and send it off for repair so much easier and cheaper than sending off the whole chair.

#4. Customer Service – As far as I am concerned, this is probably the most important thing of all. If something does happen to your chair or if you are concerned about any function of your chair, it is so great to have a company that is always available to answer your questions. This puts your mind at ease and you can't put a price on that. So, make sure that whatever chair you buy has a good company backing it up. Whether that is the manufacturer, the seller, or both...you want peace of mind right from the start of your relationship with them.

#5. Price – Even the cheapest massage chair still costs hundreds of dollars, at a minimum…they are not cheap. You will need to invest quite a bit of money to get a new chair you can count on. Prices, however, do not need to be sky-high. Depending on the features you want and/or need, prices can range anywhere from $1000 - $6000. Quite a spread, isn't it? Well, you can get a chair with all the necessary massage therapy features for between $2000 - $3000. If you want real leather vs. man-made leather, an MP3 player, a USB port, or headphones, etc., of course you will pay for those extras. But for the basic features of massage therapy, you do not need to overspend. By the way, when you compare the price of your chair to regular visits to a massage therapist or chiropractor, over time the price of the massage chair is far less than what you'd pay out for all those therapy visits.

#6. Money Back Guarantee – Does your retailer back up the sale of your new massage chair with at least a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee? If not, then you need to be a little skeptical. This is a red flag. This goes back to customer service (#4). They MUST stand behind their product. How else can you feel good about your purchase if it's not backed up by the seller? Some companies even offer 60 or 90 day money back guarantees!

By the way, it is standard policy for virtually every massage chair retailer/distributor that you are responsible for shipping and freight back to the seller if you do decide to return your chair. Shipping, by the way, can cost anywhere from $150-$400.00…it isn’t cheap!

#7. Adjustable to Different Body Sizes - I have seen some chair companies that offer "sizing" for a chair. With some product lines that may be necessary, but with a well-manufactured chair, height and width adjustments are standard and can cater to virtually every body type. Some chairs now even come with a detached ottoman so that the chair can cater to a 6’10” person as well as a 5’4” person.

Most chairs will handle up to 300 pounds of body weight. If you are buying your new massage recliner for a very heavy person, make sure that you get the maximum weight allowance for the chair you are interested in.

#8. Remote Control – Virtually every new massage recliner comes with a remote control of some sort to make chair adjustments. Some remotes come with large and fancy displays, but as long as it adjusts the features of the chair, it doesn’t really matter how large or small it is or how high-tech it looks.

#9. Appearance - this might sound goofy or vain, but I want my chair to blend in comfortably and seamlessly with the room décor of my home or office. Don't compromise on looks for price! You're going to have to look at that chair everyday for as long as you've got it. You don't want to be sitting in a chair you think is so ugly that it creates stress. Especially when you are using your new massage recliner for stress relief!

#10. Satisfied Customers - A salesperson will tell you everything you want to hear to get you into his/her chair. What do real and actual clients think about the massage chair you are considering? Are their testimonials for you to hear or read? If you ask him for a list of some folks who have purchased their chair and you get no response...run! I will trust another buyer, just like me, before I'll trust someone trying to sell something to me. Testimonials should be on every seller's website or literature.

Now you have 10 things that should help you make a more educated buying decision when considering your new massage chair.

Health Benefits Of Foot Massage

Health Benefits Of Foot Massage
Massage of any kind is relaxing and promotes a feeling of calmness. To many health practitioners, in fact, foot massage has been known to be good for health and well-being. Foot massage is common throughout the east as a healing method. In the east, foot massage is not only practiced on adults but on children as well.

Foot massage or reflexology works in the same manner as acupuncture. Each area of the foot corresponds with another area of the body and by massaging each part of the foot, you may be working on your liver, kidney, colon, stomach, etc. Thus, if you experience constipation, a massage through your feet can help in your bowel movement problems.

Health benefits are not entirely proven, but many claim they work. It is said that reflexology can get rid of toxins, help your circulation, improve body functions and even improve memory. A professional foot reflexologist can even diagnose the health problems that you are facing just by massaging your feet.

Foot massage can be really painful. This is especially if more pressure is applied. Screams of pain from a patient in a foot massage center is not uncommon. However, this should not deter you, if you are considering a foot massage. Just explain to the foot reflexologist about your low tolerance for pain and ask him to adjust the pressure applied.

If nothing else, a foot massage will help melt away the day’s stress. Your feet take the biggest beating throughout the day. They have to get you where you need to go and hold up your entire body weight. People tend to overlook their feet. However, hurting feet may just render a person immobile.

With many new age ideas filtering to the west, foot massage has also become more popular in areas like the United States. It is a natural way of treatment after a long hard day. The health benefits may be disputed but it never hurts to try it out and see what benefits it may hold for you.

Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if you lacked the ability to smelling. Sure, it whitethorn not seem as difficult as trying to navigate a room while blindfolded, or attempting to perform daily tasks without using your thumbs, but you would still be missing a lot. For one thing, your common sense of taste would go come out of the closet the window, too. For another, your brain is wired to interpret signals from your olfactory center to tell you what pleasures or hazards English hawthorn be lurking in your surroundings.

In fact, you could say that much of what you know about the world, and how you relate to it, depends on your good sense of olfactory property. Olfaction is the only gumption fully developed at birth in humans, and it plays an important role in an infant's ability to recognize and bond with his or her mother. Even the "chemistry" felt between two adults Crataegus laevigata be prompted by aroma. Scientists rich person identified substances called pheromones in human consistency olfactory property that act as chemical messengers to the brain to stimulate, among other responses or behaviors, sexual attraction to a potential mate.

With at least 5 million odor-sensing cells lining the nasal bone passages, the nozzle seems to be well-equipped to observe smells on its own. Merely, approximately scientists speculate that, like other animals, citizenry Crataegus oxycantha also wealthy person a os nasale sensory device known as a vomeronasal organ that helps them to find these subtle fragrance molecules. I originally thought that massage therapy would be a gentle, soothing massage that would lessen the ever present tightness in my shoulders and lower back. Boy was I wrong.

I made an appointment at the insistence of my boss because the neck pain I had experienced since adolescence was becoming more intense from the way I sat at my computer.

I was led into a pastel room with soft lighting and asked to strip to my underwear and lay face down on the table. My head went into a donut shaped holder and there was a place to rest my arms. The massage therapist came in and asked me some questions about the location of my pain and then went to work.

It was the most excruciating pain I had ever felt.

Deep tissue massage is used for breaking up the tightness in the muscle tissue and retraining the muscles. Although the first few sessions seemed to hurt more than they helped, I stuck with it, coming three times a week for a month. By the end of the second month I had begun to look forward to each session and noticed that I wasn't clenching my jaw as much. I also noticed that my lower back didn't hurt as much at the end of the day.

The therapist had given me several back stretching exercises to do at night and the results were amazing. I now refer all of my friends with muscle pain for massage therapy.

Massage works the soft tissue-muscles, ligaments and tendons-to stimulate circulation and improve muscle tone. It is a system of kneading and pressing on specific muscle bundles just underneath the skin, but a good massage therapist can reach deeper muscles. Massage is and ancient and simple form of therapy.

Another benefit is improved breathing and circulation. Because the lymphatic system runs parallel to the circulatory system, there is improved elimination of waste through out the body, and in order to experience the full benefits the client is taught how to breathe deeply and slowly. While the few initial visits were quite uncomfortable, the full result was entirely relaxing.

An occasional soft massage is so relaxing that many people fall asleep during the treatment.

However, if you have pain like mine a course of several treatments will result in the full benefit, such as along with increased circulation and improved breathing, a relaxed muscle is a good way to prevent sprains and torn ligaments, especially if you are an athlete. ( I am far from being an athlete, but am just as prone to injury from excess tension and structural weakness.)

For example, when the structure in my lower back is compromised due to inactivity, I am much more likely to strain my back when I lift heavy objects, even though I am aware of how to properly lift a box-with your knees, not with your back- but because my legs and lower back are weak, massage can greatly improve the position of the muscles and makes them more pliable, thus resulting in less chance of sprain or strain.

Massage is also used to relieve fatigue, which can be caused from the muscles in the body being so tight that you use extra energy to function. Because massage relaxes the muscles, the entire body doesn't have to work so hard and what was once fatigue can now be energy directed elsewhere.

One last note on the benefits of massage-the use of massage oils help lessen the friction of massage on dry skin, and are often used as an aromatherapy along with the massage process. A good, clean essential oil such as rosemary can leave the client feeling relaxed and calm, so don't hesitate to ask your therapist to use scented oil.

back massager

Besides the running jokes about what most really use a back massager for, most people tend to use them for their intended purpose. These things are awesome for just about anyone who has pain in the back on occasion, and if you are over 25, that probably means you. Back pain often comes as a fact of life, and other times it is due to injury or overuse. Some people over extend when they exercise, and some abuse their back without realizing it by the way they lift at work or at home, and some have bad posture will sitting at a computer.

No matter why someone has back pain, if the pain is the result of muscle strain, a good back massager is a must. Though getting a massage by a real person is always better, that is not always possible, and not always affordable. We would all love to get a massage once a week, but most don’t want to spend that much money. That is when a good back massager becomes invaluable. The best thing about them is that they don’t have to cost that much to do a good job.

When choosing a back massager, find on with a variety of settings. When you have a small ache, you may not need something that jars your teeth when you use it. However, for more specific and intense pain, you might want something a little more powerful. The whole point of the back massager is to loosen up muscles that have bunched up in the back. This is often why there is pain. In fact, this type of pain can be so bad a person might be sure they have done something very serious. At times, muscles bunch in protest, and it is hard to get them to let go.

If you need a back massager, don’t go for the novelty type unless you only get pain on rare occasion and you will only use it on occasion. Someone who has a lot of pain wants something with a long handle to reach all parts of the back, and something that is adjustable. You may pay more, but you are going to get your money’s worth in this case. The smaller ones can be used on your back with the assistance of others, but you can’t always be sure someone will be around to help you out when you need it the most.

If you’ve never used aromatherapy massage oils, you owe it to yourself to try it. You’re in for a totally unique experience. Whether you want a massage to relax or to rejuvenate or even to heal, using aromatherapy massage oils brings the body’s senses to new heights.

Aromatherapy has made steady gains in use and for good reason. Offering the perfect combination of mental and physical well being, there is no better way to take advantage of aromatherapy than to enjoy its fragrances in massage oils.

Our body’s different senses have been shown to have a direct affect on how we feel. For example, the nose is a very sensitive part of your body. Without it, you cannot taste or smell. Imagine your favorite foods. Now, imagine you cannot taste them. That is scary, everything you eat with no taste! How do you think that would affect your attitude throughout the day?

Studies have shown that the part of your nervous system that helps to control your emotions is connected directly to your nose. Lack of smell can cause symptoms ranging from depression to anxiety and this is only one of your senses. With the knowledge of how the mind depends on the feedback from your senses, the idea of aromatherapy exploded onto the scene.

One of the more popular types of aromatherapy is massage oil, because of the variety of uses to target specific issues. Aromatherapy massage oil treatments are unlike any other oils. Whether you are in need of relaxation or need something to perk you up, there is an aroma to fit the immediate needs. Aromatherapy massage combines two excellent methods to evoke your body’s response in whatever area you feel is needed.

There are so many different types and manufacturers of aromatherapy massage oils available, it would be a good idea to do your homework before using. For the best treatment ideas, it is always best to find and pay a certified therapist to ensure you understand how to get the most impact from aromatherapy massage. Especially, when using for the first time.

To explain a couple of different oils and fragrances we will start with Lavender essential oils. Lavender essential oils are one of the few oils that you can apply directly to your skin. It is said to have burn relief power. It is important to note that these oils should not hurt you, however, if this is your first time using essential oils never use them directly on your skin unless under safe direction. Other oils are required to be diluted before use with other base oils.

Another oil gaining in popularity is the Yland Ylang essential oil. Yland Ylang essential oils have very unique properties as well. It is said that these tropical plants have the power to both arouse and sooth the senses. It also goes by another name Cananga Odorata.

Adding aromatherapy massage oils to your therapy program is one experience everyone should try at least once. (Be careful they have been known to be addictive). With the combination of massage and a scented room to awaken your senses, you have the ultimate in relaxation and healing.

Effective Massage In A Massage Chair

Effective Massage In A Massage Chair

Most people have never used a massage chair and have no idea how they function. They have been around for years and are very sophisticated machines in the form and shape of an arm chair. Many of them are produced in Japan.

It is really great to just sit in the chair and get the massaging.

Inside the chair there are a number of motors, often 2-6, and a computer program that runs the program you choose. The whole body can be massaged within 20 minutes, sometimes less and sometimes more.

What kind of massage can you get? Let me give you some examples.

Air arm massage is a feature on some massage chairs. This is especially great to relieve weariness from the arms which are working restlessly for operation of a personal computer or a cellular phone, during works, domestic chores, leisure and so forth. The air massage mechanism is provided on the armrest and it will move naturally with the change of the body angle caused by the reclining movement. In this way the stiffness and strains in the wrists and back of hands will be relaxed thoroughly.

Depending on how the backrest is set, the function of the arm massage will work differently. The backrest can be in an upright position, slightly reclined and completely collapsed.

The air massage option is also available for the lower part of your legs. It massages with repeating cycles of compression of the muscles in an oblique direction and releasing. This stimulation assist an important function, to return the blood to the heart.

As the shape and form of our bodies differ it is vital for a good massage chair to have the option the adjust for that. Now there are chairs that automatically scans the persons body and use the data collected to change the tools, often small wheels that role and push, inside the massage chair.

Movements of hands and whole arms are reproduced to realize complicated and stereoscopic kneading up and kneading down massage. There are even more complex functions added in some programs of a massage chair. For example a function that combines the stretch massage, which resembles pressing with hands to push up first and then down, with the simultaneous application of the kneed, tapping and wavelet.

The most common functions of massage chairs are vibrations in the seat and backrest. Pleasant intermittent vibrations can be enjoyed simultaneously with the massaging. It promotes blood circulation and relieves strain from muscles.

What is the price of a massage chair? As always it depends on the functionality you want but prices range from just over $1,000 USD up to $8,000 USD. Many companies buy or rent a chair and have it for the personal. This is appreciated as a very efficient way to help the staff to stay healthy. There are studies showing that the number of sick-days will go down considerably when the massage chair has been installed.

An usual effect when a new chair is installed is that people will line up and try the massage. A schedule is almost always required and many use it frequently to get rid of the problems a stressful work situation sometimes creates.

Choosing Quality Massage Chairs

Choosing Quality Massage Chairs

Have you heard of massage chairs? By their name alone, one can surmise that they give a user a thorough massage while sitting comfortably. More and more people are buying these items because of the health benefits they bring. They are known as more practical items of relaxation since they allow their users to save on frequent trips to massage shops, saunas, or spas. These chairs can also be enjoyed at the comfort of their homes.

You might be one of those interested in purchasing one. But how do you determine if you are choosing the right brand? Learn some practical tips to help you out.

There are various kinds of upholstery that massage chairs offer. One can opt for leather upholstery, which is normally the most expensive, costing you an extra $200 at the minimum. However leather upholstery is quite difficult to maintain, plus they get damage easily. You can also go for synthetic leather which is more durable, or vinyl which is not exactly the most stylish but is quite easy to preserve.

Massage chairs can be power assisted, which is quite luxurious feature. High end items can recline the leg and back rest both at the same time. Some brands can be controlled wirelessly, while some have separate electrical controls for foot and back rest.

Massage chairs can either be partially or fully reclined. The rule of thumb is that full recline is more than 170 degrees, and anything less than that is partial recline. Most chairs are between 20 to 22 inches in width, while at least 17 inches in depth. You can determine if your body can fit in the seats. The depth of the seat can also alter the leg length, compromising some leg rest features such as rollers and air bladders. Thus people who have short legs can only us the leg rest function when they are upright especially if the chair is too deep for them.

You can choose between three vibration massage or shiatsu. The latter is considered more intense which means it may not be appropriate for everyone. Other brands can lift you 6 inches from the chair, which means it can bring pain especially if your muscles are tight. Pads are provided to cushion the massage. On the other hand the vibration massage is more relaxing, but they do not exactly get toxins out of your system.

Massage chairs also come in the old vibration type, and the deep tissue massage kind. Brands also differ in massage intensity, and in the features they have for the back and the foot. There are chairs that offer soft massage, some offer heat, while some stretch the legs and feet. Shiatsu, also known as deep tissue massage, is focused on tapping, kneading, and stretching.

In choosing for massage chairs, choose the unit that can accommodate wider individuals. Normally units can adjust their space from 2 to 4 inches. Prefer units that can adjust the massage function to a specific area of the back. You might also choose from the speed options in the chair. Some combine tapping and kneading, the more advanced versions provide forward as well as reverse directional controls.

If you are the budget conscious shopper, you have to be forewarned that massage chairs may range from $1000 to $4000. Going for cheaper brands may not be the wisest of ideas since the features are limited, the materials are of poor quality, and they carry shorter terms of warranty. It may actually be more practical if you spend more since you are getting a more quality item in return. More expensive items are also more useful since they carry more features that can give you a more relaxing massage experience.

Indeed massage chairs can be very beneficial and practical items for tired and stressed out individuals. They are long term investments since they can provide relaxation at home and spare the user of expensive trips to the spa. However one needs to know the basics of shopping for these products. Knowing the considerations in buying these items can help you make an informed and educated decision.

Fundamental of Massage Therapy

Fundamental of Massage Therapy

Massage is another remedial procedure that occupies an important place in Naturopathy. Actually massage has had a very long history, dating back to ancient times. Massage has been used therapeutically for thousands of years in India, China, Greece, Rome, Egypt, etc.

Massage has a very salubrious effect on the organs and systems of the body as detailed below:

(1) Skin: The beneficial effects of massage on the skin are unequalled. The pores of the skin are opened up, thus helping of the elimination of poisons from the body through perspiration.
(2) Muscles: Massage reduces the tension in the muscles and relieves muscular pain. Strenuous exertion results in the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles. Massage helps to rid the muscles of this acid and thus imparts a feeling of freshness and vigour.
(3) Circulation of the blood: The circulation of the blood in the part being massaged is speeded up, so that the part is supplied with more nutrients, and its healing powers are augmented. The accelerated circulation reduces swelling. There is an increase in the capacity of the blood to carry oxygen and to utilize it effectively.
(4) Nerves: Slow and gentle massage with light pressure relieves tension of the nerves and soothes them. Vigorous massage stimulates lax nerves and increases their efficiency.
(5) The digestive system: Massaging the abdomen
stimulates the digestive system, and promotes better elimination of wastes. The resistive powers of the body are strengthened due to the increase in the efficiency of the liver.
(6) The urinary system: Massaging activates the urinary system. As a result the process of elimination of toxic substances from the body through the urine is accelerated by the formation of greater quantities of urine.
(7) The heart: Systematic massage will reduce the burden on the heart, and thus increase its efficiency.

Normally dry palms are used for massage; but if the skin is too dry or if the body is excessively weak, wet cloth or soothing oil may be used. Among oils, sesame (til) oil is the best for this purpose. Some people use talcum powder for reducing friction while massaging, but this practice is not desirable, as the pores of the skin get clogged up.

Method: The process should begin with massage of the arms and legs. Next the chest, abdomen, back and buttocks should be massaged, in that order, finishing with the face and the head. Cloth should be used for massaging the back. As far as possible, we should massage ourselves with our own hands so as to combine the benefits of massages with those of exercise also to a certain extent. Those who are too weak to do so may take the help of others.

A massage should preferably be followed by a bath with lukewarm water.
If suffering from high blood pressure, the direction of massaging movements should be reversed, i.e. from head to foot.

Note: Massages are contra-indicated in the following conditions:
(1) In fevers, no massage of any type is recommended.
(2) Pregnant ladies should avoid massaging the abdomen.
(3) Abdominal massages should be avoided in cases of diarrhoea, gastric or
duodenal ulcers, appendicitis or tumours in the abdomen.
(4) Massages are generally unadvisable in cases of skin diseases.

Health Benefits Of Massage Recliners

Health Benefits Of Massage Recliners

After a long hard day at the office wouldn’t it be nice to get a massage. Unfortunately you have to first find a certified or licensed massage therapist. If you’re lucky and happen to know someone or have a regular therapist you work with, you still have to schedule an appointment. After you call and set the time you’ll have to get back into your car and drive to therapist’s office.

In today’s world most of us want instant gratification and have limited time in our hectic life. If money was no object most of us would get a massage every week, or possibly two or three times a week.

Let me pause here for a moment. It is very ironic that I would be writing an article about massage recliners because I am a certified massage therapist. As a therapist my first goal is to help the client get healthy. Sometimes I refer a client to a chiropractor or to an acupuncturist that can better serve the clients needs. The same is true about massage recliners. With new technology massage recliners have advanced beyond clunky massage rollers to high tech massagers that can emulate the human touch.

There are many health benefits from a massage from a trained therapist or a massage recliner. A trained massage therapist knows how to get the kinks out of your back and relieve the muscle tension from everyday stress. Massage recliners have superior technology and do more than rub your back. New models from Human Touch, iJoy, Panasonic and Sanyo can also massage the legs, feet, arms and shoulders.

Health Benefits of Massage

* Improves lymphatic flow. The act of massaging and kneading the muscles increases blood flow. Health benefits are better circulation and absorption of nutritional elements into the muscles and tissues. In addition, kneading the muscles helps clear out toxins out of the muscles.

* Decreases muscle tension and improves flexibility. Body tension and stress causes the muscles to tighten and shorten. Health benefits include loosening tight muscles and restoring range and flexibility.

* Massage therapy produces the ‘feel good chemical’, the same endorphins that are increased after working out at the gym. This ‘feel good chemical’ helps speed recovery, reduces pain and reduces anxiety.

Another benefit seldom discussed is clearer thinking. When you are out of body pain and the range of motion is restored to your neck, your mind can better concentrate on your everyday tasks.

Rates for a massage therapist can range from $40 to $100 depending on the therapist’s level of training and the city they are located in. Massage recliners are not cheap and can cost thousands of dollars. But over time, a massage recliner can pay for itself and provide many health benefits. Other considerations of cost savings are other family members using the massage recliner. In addition, some massage recliners are very stylish and are a handsome addition to any home décor.

Another benefit of a massage recliner is the fact it is a recliner chair. Anybody who has ever sat in a recliner knows how comfortable it is. Even if you do not activate the features of the massage recliner, the recliner itself has health benefits. The simple act of just sitting in a comfortable chair relaxes your body and eases body tension.

It’s your choice. Buy a massage recliner or call a massage therapist. Either one that you choose will have many health benefits. To make your buying decision easy I’d suggest scheduling two or three appointments with a certified or licensed massage therapist. Then try several brands and models of massage recliners to compare results.
